Product Description

ST-LS01 Leak & Seal Strength Tester quantitatively tests seal strength, heat-seal quality, burst pressure of full bags and sealing leakage performance for flexible packages and sterile packages formed by heat sealing or adhesive bonding. It also conducts quantitative measurement of sealing performance of plastic tamper-evident caps, overall tightness, pressure resistance, cap detachment force, heat seal strength and binding strength of flexible tubes.
Besides, it can evaluate compression resistance, burst resistance of materials for flexible pouches, cap torque sealing indicators, cap pull-off strength, material stress resistance, overall bottle tightness and pressure resistance.

1. Application Fields

Basic Applications Burst strength test, creep test, creep-to-failure test for flexible pouches & paper-plastic composite bags
Extended Applications Burst test for 3-side sealed open pouches; sealing test for tamper-evident caps; blister pack burst test; gross bubble leak test; pressure & sealing test for metal cans

Note: Extended applications require customized pressure ranges, fixtures and auxiliary accessories.

2. Test Principles

2.1 Burst Test

Pressurize the flexible pouch internally until rupture. The maximum burst pressure the sample withstands before failure will be recorded.

2.2 Creep Test

Apply a fixed internal pressure and hold for specified duration. Samples with intact sealing without leakage are judged Pass; otherwise Fail.

2.3 Creep-to-Failure Test

Pressurize the pouch to a preset pressure and maintain until leakage occurs. Higher pressure is adopted compared with standard creep test to ensure package failure within reasonable time. The test records the holding time before leakage.

2.4 Gross Bubble Leak Test (Customized Whole Machine Required)

Pierce the package with a perforator to insert air supply and pressure monitor, then seal the piercing position with adhesive tape and rubber mat. Submerge the package about 2.5cm under water, inflate the sample and adjust pressure regulator to reach or exceed specified test pressure and maintain constant pressure. Inspect bubble streams from all damaged areas (seal channels, pinholes, ruptures, tears). Mark all leakage positions after taking samples out of water. This full set function needs customized configuration.

2.5 Cap Sealing Test (Customized Fixture Required)

Non-carbonated beverage caps

No leakage at 200kPa, no cap detachment at 350kPa.
Seal the cap at rated torque, pressurize to 200kPa and hold underwater for 1 minute to check air leakage. Then raise pressure to 350kPa and hold for another 1 minute to observe cap detachment.

Carbonated beverage caps

No leakage at 690kPa, no cap detachment at 1207kPa. Test procedure follows the same steps above.

2.6 Metal Can Pressure & Sealing Test (Customized Fixture Required)

Pressure Resistance Test

Inflate to 150kPa; for cans with height ≥ 2×diameter, hold 1 minute at 180kPa without permanent deformation.

Sealing Integrity Test

Inflate to 150kPa; for cans with height ≥ 2×diameter, hold 1 minute at 180kPa with zero leakage allowed.
